Chemical Peels

Facial peels are a versatile cosmetic dermatology treatment that benefits many skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, rosacea and an overall improvement in skin texture and apperance. Board-certified dermatologist Michael Rains, MD, FAAD, provides facial peels at Beacon Dermatology in Asheville, North Carolina.

What are facial peels?

Facial peels are cosmetic treatments that remove the outer layers of skin, revealing the healthier, younger skin underneath.

During a facial peel, Dr. Rains applies a chemical solution to your skin. The chemical creates a controlled injury to the top layer of your skin, causing it to peel away over time.

What can facial peels treat?

Beacon Dermatology uses facial peels to treat many common skin concerns. You may consider this cosmetic treatment if you’re looking for an effective tool to:

  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve your skin’s tone and texture
  • Remove areas of hyperpigmentation
  • Lessen the appearance of acne scars
  • Restore your skin’s youthful glow

Dr. Rains may also use facial peels to treat certain types of acne or acne scars.

What are the types of facial peels?

Facial peels come in varying levels of strength. The type of facial peel best suited for you depends on your skin issues and beauty goals.

Types of facial peels include:

Beacon Refresh Peel

The Beacon Refresh peel, also called the lunchtime peel, is a mild chemical solution that removes the outermost layer of your skin. It’s the gentlest facial peel and one you can repeat regularly.

Dr. Rains may recommend the light facial peel to treat fine lines, acne, or sun-damaged skin.

Beacon Renew Peel

The Beacon Renew peel is a specially formulated peel that removes the outer layer (epidermis) and the upper part of your middle layer of skin (dermis). This peel creates a smooth, even look and treats age spots, acne scarring, and moderate lines and wrinkles.

Beacon Reveal Peel

The Beacon Reveal peel is a specially formulated peel that targets a deeper level of skin to remove dead and sun damaged skin cells and stimulates new collagen to leave the skin smoother, more youthful and overall improved apperance. This peel targets acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and moderate lines and wrinkles. This peel also can remove precancerous growths called actinic keratoses.

TCA CROSS Peel

The TCA CROSS Peel is a specialized type of peel predominately used for acne scars.  This peel uses a highly concentrated trichloroacetic acid to specific acne scars to help produce new collagen and elastin.  This can result in an improved apperance and texture of acne scars.

What happens after facial peels?

Dr. Rains explains in detail the type of facial peel best suited for you and what to expect after. The strength and type of your peel determines the amount of required downtime.

Recovery from a Beacon Refresh Peel may take up to a week*, but requires no downtime. Recovery from a Beacon Renew or Reveal peel may take two or more weeks* and require some downtime during the healing process.

Facial peels are a natural way to restore glowing skin. Call the Beacon Dermatology office or book an appointment online today.
